Research Advisory Committee (RAC) – Functions

The Research Advisory Committee (RAC) plays a vital role in ensuring the quality, integrity, and progress of research activities undertaken by scholars. The committee provides academic guidance and monitors research work in accordance with university regulations.

Key Functions:

• To review and approve the research proposals submitted by research scholars.
• To guide scholars in refining their research objectives, methodology, and scope of study.
• To monitor the progress of research work through periodic reviews and presentations.
• To provide constructive suggestions to enhance the quality of research.
• To ensure adherence to ethical standards and academic integrity.
• To evaluate and approve any modifications in the research topic or methodology.
• To recommend the submission of synopsis and thesis based on satisfactory progress.
• To promote interdisciplinary and innovative research practices.

Constitution of Research Advisory Committee (RAC):

• There shall be a Research Advisory Committee (RAC) consisting of three subject experts for each Ph.D. scholar. All members shall be recognized Research Supervisors in University of Madras and be in active service.
• The Research Supervisor shall act as the Convener, and the other two subject experts shall be members of the RAC.
• Of the two subject experts, one may be the Faculty of the concerned discipline, and the other may be the Co-Supervisor (if applicable) or an external subject expert.
• When two subject experts, including the Research Supervisor, are available within the University, only one external subject expert may be included in the RAC.
